Prepare and Repair Symposium

Afrimerican Academy present this event as part of Boston Redline 88 (#BRL88) which is Black History Month celebration commemorating the 88th anniversary of the Boston Redline Map which was issued Feb 1st 1938. This years theme 'Claim Our Space' urges us to claim the spaces that have been denied for too long.

"Stuff My Mother Said" Storytelling Workshop

In this writing and sharing workshop "Stuff My Mother Said to Me: the good, the bad, and the kooky", playwrights Charlotte Meehan and Christina Chan will guide participants to quickly write from memories about things their mothers said to them. The idea is to encourage stream-of-consciousness expression that results from writing without lifting the pen from the page for 20 minutes. Afterwards, everyone (who wants to) will share stories in a participants-only setting while enjoying tea and cookies.

Suicide Prevention, Awareness & Support for Older Adults: Part Two

Please join us for the second session of Suicide Prevention, Awareness & Support for Older Adults with Samaritans. This follow-up session will build on our December workshop, where we explored statistics, risk factors, warning signs, and tools for supporting someone who may be struggling with mental health or thoughts of suicide. In this second session, we’ll start by reflecting back on our conversation about active listening, asking direct questions about suicide and other strategies for navigating conversations around suicide risk. We will also discuss ways to care for ourselves and our community following a loss to suicide and what postvention looks like. If you were not there in December, no worries!

Please join us regardless of if you will be continuing the conversation or joining it for the first time.
